I am new to HDTV and have recently installed HD Television and Receiver and have Directv. 199 and 509 arefine in HD but 4, 5 and 7 seem only to broadcast in SD. Isthis correct or do I need to contact Directv ? Thanks for any info out there.

If you're asking if your local channels (4, 5 and7) should be coming in in HD from DirecTv, no they wont be. The only way to get those in HD (if they do HD) is with a seperate OTA antenna. DirecTv doesnt offer any local channels in HD.

JEM,

What DP1 says is correct, you will need to hook up your HD receiver to an off-air antenna to receive the local Boston digital channels.

Right now CBS (channel 30) has a lot of HDTV programming, as well as ABC (channel 20) and also PBS (channel 19) when they are actually transmitting. We also have Fox (channel 31), NBC (channel 42) and the HSN (channel 23) but they don't do HDTV, just standard digital definition which still is a LOT better than analog and give you a MUCH better picture quality than the locals you get from Direct TV.

FOX (channel 31) has been either off-the-air or transmitting at low power so you may not be able to pick it up.
