I know the output connection on a device is supposed to send out the information and the input connection receives

But how does your blu ray player or any device detect your tvs resolution cabability without your device receiving info from your tv ?

your player would have to receive some sort of info to know what resolution can be selected for you player to match your tvs resolution.

Like for example my old school plasma can only receive a 1080i video signal for HD and on my xbox only 1080i is high lighted in the video resolution menu.

How does the xbox know that if there is no input on the console ?

same thing for HDMI 1.4 networking goes both ways. so the output on the device would also have to receive and the input on the device would also have to send out.

does HDMI go both ways in and out on both ports even though they are labeled specifically output and input ?
