ok my dad has a 7.1 sony receiver. he wants to get another subsonic xs1 for the ht. but then he complains that he needs 7.2 to be able to get 7.2

Not true .. all he needs is a $3 "Y" RCA splitter cable.

Some pre/pros and receivers have 2 sub outputs that are individually calibrated when audyssey is run. It can set thel level, xover, distance etc for each of the 2 subs. It's a nice feature but certianly not necessary to run 2 subs. The $3.00 y splitter will do just fine.
