Hello !

Just bough a basic 720P 16:9 LCD TV to use as my computer monitor & TV.

I have a digital cable receiver right now.

We DO NOT have ANY HDTV channels in our area.

Question is.

Do I need an HD Receiver ?

Will I get a better image quality from those regular digital channels with a HD receiver ?

Will the regular receiver display SD signal properly in a 16:9 format ?

Thanx a lot !

Do I need an HD Receiver ? No, if no HD is available via cable or OTA, there's no point

Will I get a better image quality from those regular digital channels with a HD receiver ? Most likely not, your display should convert any input it gets to it's 720p native resolution internally.

Will the regular receiver display SD signal properly in a 16:9 format ? - No, SD is 4:3, see if your TV has any stretch or zoom modes to make it fit.
