I bought a Panasonic HDTV this weekend along with the Samsung DS-360 (I think) HD receiver. I am using DirectTV, and so far, I only get the basic 5 channel package with HD. Do I have to get a separate OTA tuner? Should I take the Samsung back and get a different receiver (I read somewhere that the Hughes receiver comes with one built in).

Thanks for your help.

All D* HD receivers (including the Samsung 360) are capable of tuning OTA digital/HD channels when connected to an OTA antenna. I suggest that you go to www.antennaweb.org and see which channels are available in your area and what type of antenna they recommend.

I know nothing about antennas. It tells me that for all the stations except NBC, I need a violet-UHF antenna. Does this sound right?

How much does an antenna cost and where can I get one? Also, how does it install?

Thanks.

Once you have it hooked up to an Ant. you will need to do a search for Digital channels. You can do this under the setup menu. Read the instructions booklet for details. It is really easy.

Between $5 and a couple of hundred. It depends on what you need.

Forum sponsers like Antennas Direct and Solid Signal. Maybe they should pay for bigger advertisments at the top of the page.

It depends on the type. Some sit on top of the TV. Others install in the attic or outside the house. Basic knowledge of a screwdriver and wrench should be enough for most installations.

Try to use an ant you have in the house currently. That will give you a starting point. In my case a cheap ten dollar RCA ANT works perfectly for me. Mainly, because I'm 6 miles from Twin Cities towers.
