Do I need to relocate my sub?

240 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  Linda
Hi, While calibrating and measuring my subwoofers performance, I have come across some strange measurements. Using a low frequency test tone going only to my sub and a Rat Shack level meter, which is located in the right front corner of the room, my listening chair has the least measurement of the entire room. Measurement at about a foot from the sub is around 94 db but drops to 85db when I sit in my listening chair!!!!!!!!!!! Around the room the measurement remains above 90db until, of course, I sit in my listening chair where it falls off.........................

Any suggestions on how I can improve this situation?

Regards,

It sounds like the antinodes happen to correspond to your listening position.

You can try moving the sub a few feet at a time to see how that changes things. Another suggestion I've seen is to move the sub to your normal listening position (which implies movingn some furniture to make room) and then wander around the room looking for the best response. Move the sub to that location.
