I'm going to get one of the new Gigabyte 785g motherboards once they are released. For Home theater purposes (Blueray playback, High Def Streaming) is there any advantage in getting Sideport and DDR3? Benchmarks?

I intend on using this w/ a AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz. Newegg only has the none sideport version right now and I'm not sure I want to wait or buy from another place... :-(

Thanks,

no, not at all.

BD playback does not need high memory bandwidth. You're only talking 40Mbit/second bitrates here. Even the crappiest integrated graphics using system RAM is going to have no issues pulling off 10 GIGABYTE/sec real-world bandwidth.

Yup, none at all.

But, with DDR2-800 in single channel mode 6.4GB/s, sometimes playback is choppy. So HD video decoding requires much broader bandwidth in memory than 50Mb/s (as we are talking about raw video frame streams rather than compressed video streams).
