Does any one know if any of the following three Toshiba HD DVD Players do vertical stretch that is needed for a CIH 2:35:1 setup ?

Toshiba HD-A2

Toshiba HD-A20

Toshiba HD-XA2.

Thanks

Not that I'm aware of.
However Samsung models do at least some of them.
Samsung's BD1000 does have a "ZOOM" button on the remote, but at this point in time, it seems to be software driven, so would not work with the titles I tried it on. I understand it will fill the 16:9 screen.

What it needs to do (firmware upgrade maybe) is perform a dual step stretch function -

Press once - the image vertically stretched to rid the black bars allowing it work in CIH.

Press again - the image now stretched horizontally clipping off the sides for all those in love with their plasmas, but want to use the full panel.

Press once again - returns back to normal letter box image.

Pure and simple and caters for everyone...

Pure and simple would be nice but engineers don't seem to think that way, and if like many companies the salesmen tell customers what the "NEW" item can do then the engineers need to figure a way to make it do that. Very bad way of designing but seems to be prevelant in the electronics field.

Also I don't think many of the companies even know CIH people exist out there let alone give any sort of feature to them.

Yeah including the dick from Samsung I spoke to the other day. He had no idea what I was talking about - nothing, nada, zilch

Agreed. We're really a niche-within-a-niche-within-a-niche, so I never expect to find features specifically for CIH. Any stretch modes you do find are just to get rid of those horrid black bars on 2.35 stuff for your average plasma owner. At least the Optoma tech I corresponded with was well-versed in CIH and the ramifications of various stretch modes for lens use.

It would be so cool if my A2 had a vertical stretch, though...

Gosh Jack, that's too much nesting!

I would argue that "Home Theater" (or "Theatre" if you will) is so very hot these days that anyone who is actually in the business of providing product to HT that doesn't know about CIH should be ashamed of themselves!
