Do you actually see a difference between 10 bit and 8 bit panels? Or is the manufacturer's processing system more important?

For example, is there anyone here who claim to be able to tell visually right away whether a panel is 8 bit or 10 bit just by viewing a movie?

Alternatively, do some manufacturer's 8 bit look better than other manufacturer's 10 bit due to better processing?

Thanks,

Outside of test patterns the difference is subtle, but it does allow for a slightly less artifacty picture provided the proceeding video processing is up to snuff (which it often isn't). Just think of the 8/10 bit panel thing as determining how much dither has to be applied at the end of the video processing stage, that's pretty much all it is.

At the end of the day, we're still stuck with 8 bit source material (unfortunately).
