Say your TV is HDMI 1.3a and your receiver is 1.3 and you have 1 cable going from your TV to your receiver, then a blu-ray player that supports 1.3a plugged into the receiver. Will you lose whatever benefit the a is giving you or does it send the whole signal no matter what?

HDMI-CEC like Viera Link, Anynet, etc (see: useless).


If your Blu-ray player can decode all of the audio codecs, you don't need anything higher than HDMI 1.0. You aren't missing anything.

lol... i am not sure what the big 'a' added. i believe the .3 added all the cool stuff like the 8 kajillion color capability and the biggie (at least to me although i have now idea how it is implemented) is the audio sync...

1.3 added Deep Color, cvYCC, lossless bitstreaming and I believe audio lip sync.


Auto lip sync works by having a TV which sends it's delay and another device which uses that to delay audio by the appropriate amount.

sweet.. thanks!! i felt it was pretty important especially if you read the spec sheets from the denons with 1.3 versus the ones without 1.3.. i always felt it made a difference..
