If it's available on Blu-ray, I'll get it on Blu-ray 100% of the time. If it's not on Blu-ray, and it doesn't seem like there's a reasonable chance of a Blu-ray anytime soon, I'll get it on DVD (obscure catalog films, TV shows, super low budget things, etc.).

Since a few months after the US release of the first HD DVDs, I have only been buying high definition software, with just a few exceptions (Caprica is one of them, the Joan Crawford box with 'A Woman's Face' being another).

The last DVD I bought was TRANSFORMERS in 2007. I was buying HD DVD for a time, however I gave them away and rebought everything on BD.

Same here. It is sad that so much good stuff will likely never see the light of day on BD. I just don't see enough to satisfy me on BD alone so I still buy DVDs.

Add me to this list. I just ordered Swept Away and Seven Beauties on DVD. Roughly 1/3 of my collection of 1,100 is HD.

I'll still buy DVD if it's the only version available, but that's occurring less and less often, and essentially 100% of my recent purchases have been BD.


Studios definitely seem to have jumped on the Blu-ray bandwagon way more now with most high-profile new releases day and date on both formats.


I've mostly already bought all the catalog titles I want (in DVD, HD DVD or BD), so nowadays am mostly just buying new-releases and upgrading old ones (in BD).


In situations where I'm introduced to an old gem I never knew about though.. I'll definitely still buy DVD.

That's exactly what I do. If the BD is too expensive, I wait until the price comes down.


Currently, I have the latest DVD version of "The Gate" sitting in my "saved" section of my Amazon cart. I figure I'll wait a bit to see if any word comes around about a BD release. However, If I see the price on the DVD drop to $10 or less, I'll just go ahead and get the DVD since my old version is such a terrible (and non-OAR) Good Times Video transfer.


I've received a few DVDs as gifts, but (other than a region 2 DVD of "Mickybo and Me", which will likely never see a region 1 DVD release, much less a BD release) I don't buy DVD for anything other than non HD TV show sets anymore.

I got well over 500 HD-DVDs/Blu-Rays.


I stopped buying HD-DVDs a year ago and I don't remember the last DVD I picked.

Feature films, Blu only. These are generally titles I will generally watch soon after purchase, keep (or sell if it was a blind buy gone terribly wrong), and rewatch. If I really want to see a movie not out on Blu, I will rent it.


TV series, I will still buy DVD when a "complete series" set of something that I may have only seen some of comes along at a ridiculous price, 25-50 cents per episode. These I may not even start until six months after I buy them, and I may watch them elsewhere than on my HT system. Recent examples: Six Feet Under, SG1, Ally McBeal.


The exception being series, like Firefly, BSG, Rome, Band of Brothers, and a few others that I expect to become staples. Even then, I will do without until the price comes down.

Just Blu-ray for me. I wind up with an occasional one from a friend or maybe a box set of something that is only on DVD. I get good deals on Blu-ray(s) on-line so I see no reason to buy DVD anymore

I even get my kid his shows on Blu-ray!

Have not purchased a DVD in more than five years. DVD purchase was greatly slowed by D-VHS D-Theater® purchase which in turn was halted by Blu-ray.

Pretty much only Blu Ray. Unless its a TV series that was released on DVD and probably wont be released on Blu Ray.

I'm in exactly the same boat. My purchases are based on content not format with a preference for BD if it's released. Most of my recent purchases, however, have been older catalog titles on DVD.

Strictly Blu, unless there's an older movie that i love that is for a good price on dvd, with a good transfer, that isn't coming to Blu ray in the foreseeable future. Like Rocky Horror Picture Show.
