Sorry guy's but I need to vent  I am so tired of reading one rant after another with the Sammy DLP's  Does anyone just sit back and enjoy their display for what it is instead of making it a case study in WHAT CAN I FIND WRONG....... SHOULD I RETURN IT......I'M ON MY 4TH UNIT AND....I'M A BIT DISAPOINTED....

Advice....crack open a cold one, throw in a DVD, sit back with your significant other (and or kids) and CHILL! After all wasn't that the point of your purchase to begin with:confused:

YES!.....I do just sit and enjoy my Sammy....no ranting and raving here. But I do agree there seems to be a lot of unhappy campers with their DLP. I don't understand it myself....in fact....gets me so paranoid that I sometimes find myself wondering which one of the "problems" will strike my TV first. But until that happens, I'll take up a "cold one" and enjoy it with baja.

Yea, I do.

I have come to the realization that my vision will fade long before they work out all the bugs with High Defition 1080p in the displays and a medium to deliver it. NOT TO MENTION, the transfer methods of getting celluloid to digital with out all the noise in dark scenes and such. So I better enjoy what I got now.

DLP is great. It's better than LCD.. It's quite comparable to CRT. It's thin, looks nice.... and fits. Table top design.... 720p native.... NO BURN IN... best contrast of digital display technologies.... great resolution... Reliable technology...lightweight....with an amazing picture for alot less than HDTV plasma.

Does it have minor dithering? =Yes

Does it have CRT blacks? =NO

Does it cost alot? =YES

It is what it is.... and I think most times people expect too much.

If you want a deal, and you want a nice picture.... Buy a CRT and calibrate it.

If you want a nice look, thin, lightweight, 720p, No Burn in, good blacks, and table top design.... Buy a DLP.

If you want streaking, stuck pixels, noisy dancing pixels, trails, poor blacks, neon colors, screen door, and green faces.... Buy LCD.

If you want to spend too much and regret it a year later.... Buy a Plasma.

If you want a great picture, No calibration required, and no headaches, with great blacks and colors.... Buy a CRT TUBE.

If you want to wait and not enjoy HDTV..... sit on the side line and miss out on the fun....:D

My recently-upgraded 507W has been a major source of delight in my house since Christmas last year. I think the problems with a new technology get more attention simply because that's what AVS Forum is so good at - helping folks overcome their problems. What you are seeing viz Samsung DLPs is like the tip of the ice berg. Sure there are problems with a new technology and, as far as I can tell (with my $200 board upgrade :D ) Samsung is valliantly trying to "do good" by its customers. Given our experiences with our DLP, the main (invisible) part of the ice berg is VERY happy and too busy to say so on AVS Forum...

just bought the 61 and only two days ago got an antenna and HD receiver installed.

I LOVE THIS TV. I have the 931 hooked up via DVI for DVD's.

It is so nice with such a great picture. DirecTV picture is nowhere near as bad as I've seen people talk about (my opinion!).

Of course I was coming from a 12 year old 52 inch Magnavox that was unwatchable during the day.

Thanks again to everyone on the forum and to Rogo for the "just go for it".

I also ordered the MX-700 universal remote and purchased a new Onkyo HTIB package to with it. Once everything is in place I'll post a few pics.

Actually, you can get the LCD, enjoy it out of the box, take the money you saved and buy a good sound system.

Baja, well said actually.

It is interesting how much an effect 2nd hand whining will have on some people here. In the end it really does come down to enjoyment, and that's why I hope that sometime soon in the future I will spend less time on here (and HTF) and more time listening to music, watching movies and sports... :)

This reminds me of the audiophile thing - are you watching the display (listening to the equipment) or watching the program (listening to the music)? Seems like a lot of us may be doing the former. Then again, whne I'm plunking $5k in Canadian Rubles on a TV, I wanna be damn sure it's right for me.

I've come to this conclusion...other than making sure that you offset Mfusick's RELENTLESS, WITHERING, UNBALANCED diatribes on LCD with a balanced, thoughtful counterpoint as to why LCD just MIGHT make sense to some people, just ignore him. The man THRIVES on controversy...needling people with his pathetic "Hey!! Over here!! Pay ATTENTION to ME!!!" ranting....

It's actually a shame. The man knows his stuff, and he does offer value to the forum - except when he goes on these RIDICULOUSLY one-sided rants about how HORRIBLE RP LCD is. Must REALLY rip him up to see people not listening to him.

When he goes into these insipid "LCD sucks" rants, ignore him. Do not feed his pathetic ego.

I do it all the time, tweaking is fun once in a while, but anyone that sits down and looks for things wrong on a daily basis should just sell it and go outside IMO. I bought my sammy to enjoy, 2200+ hrs and counting, can't wait to hit the 5000 hour mark :)

I couldn't agree with you more!

I'm sure many people who do not voice their opnions agree with your observations too. It must really get under the skin of those bias individuals to learn this as they diminish their reputation with slanted display smack.

Amen Baja!

Just about every night I crack open a cold one and drool over those amazing HD images. Most weekends we rent a DVD from the local non-chain video store that has lots of not-made-in-holywood movies, where there's more to the story than special effects, and enjoy. Usually with a few friends.

It's good to see the shortcomings of technology and discuss those. Nothing is perfect, and it helps those that are trying to decide what they want to spend their currency of choice on. Turning that into a crusade to defend ones insecurity about ones own purchase at the expense of others is foolish and a waste of bandwidth. It does not contain any information nor contribute to the body of knowledge.

Tweaking is great and I love it, but at the end of the day one has to be able to sit back and enjoy ones work.

Some cultures have their ancestral shrine at home to pray to. I worship my GWII every night and love it! ;)

Nope, no bias on Mfusick, that's for sure...

I've never seen an LCD set that had any of the problems you always harp about. Sure, they don't have the black levels of a CRT, but they have the same advantages as a DLP, and NO RAINBOWS!

To anyone considering an LCD set, do not be put off by MFusick's constant LCD bashing - go look at one and judge for yourself.

We enjoyed watching "Catch me if you can" DVD last night on our HLM507W V109.

Tweaking the TV is pretty much behind me now. I did play with our 5.1 sound system a little bit though. :)

Baja, I often just enjoy my damn display. :)

Even with it's multitudinous flaws, it's pretty unreal.

You sure can read my mind. Those are the same reasons I have LCD. You just can't get any of those unique features on anything else.
