I love my XA2 running FW 2.7. Just became aware of FW 4.0, because I haven't been to this forum in a very long time.


Anyway, my unit does a couple odd things the first time you turn it on for any given session of viewing. 1) it outputs 1080p/60, not 1080p/24 and 2) it always starts by outputing PCM, even though I have the direct digital audio mode set to on. If I just enter and leave the setup menu, both problems appear to be fixed until I turn the unit off and back on again.


Have others seen this weirdness? Does 4.0 address either of these problems? I'm hesitant to install it because this problem is only an annoyance and my overall performance is perfect.

Yes I have to with my A30. It's been suggested it could be a timing or communication issue between the TV and player. Some people have swapped out the HDMI cable and solved it. That didn't work for me however. My display is a Samsung HL56A650 DLP that has limited 24 fps support so that's probably my problem. Usually rebooting the disc or entering setup and exiting does the trick. I used to set to 1080p then back to 1080p24 but it seems entering and leaving setup is enough.


Don't think the latest firmware will solve this either but haven't upgraded from 1.3 since like you I'm happy with the older firmware.

Interestingly, I recently added in a Monster Cable that a friend no longer needed and it seems to have lessened, though not solved the problem. I seem to be more frequently getting 1080p/24 without hoop jumping at this point.

Good to hear. You definitely got the Monster cable the right way. I choke up when I see the prices they want!
