I'm adding a stair case and moving my HT system to that wall. I want to eliminate my entertainment cabinet to save some room. I have all that space under the stair case.

I was going to "sink" everything into the wall but the TV and speakers wont fit. But the contractor said we can still do all the components. I have a Receiver, DVD, and cable box.

What I'm thinking is having them installed in the wall taking up the under the stair case space.

Anyone have pics of something like this?

My conservative little HT has the components mounted thru-wall, in a 48" tall 19" equipment rack. This also beneath a stairwell.

I framed the wall with 1/2" extra space between the studs and set the width with shims, very much like installing a window. I then trimmed around the equipment rack with colonial molding, also like a window.

I'll try to dig up some pictures. I know Kal (here and at curtpalme.com) and others have thru-wall 19" equipment racks, some with computer-room style doors that look pretty spiffy and keep the dust out.

A lot of people do built-ins systems for different things. If you are going to do it for your components, I would suggest also figuring out a way to have access to the back. Access to the back, with a little lighting, will go a LONG way to making your equipment setup easy.

While my setup is not under a stairway, it is through-wall with no access to the rear. The rack is on wheels and it simply pulls out for wiring.

I 100% will be able to access it, it will be taking up under the stairway space. Not a problem at all.

Thanks guys great pics, keep them coming if you can
