Iv'e been reading up on this Samsung HDTV and it's simular like models(up to 32"), but the specs(and owners manual) only say it can handle 480i/480p and 1080i. It states nothing about 720p.

One person is stating that this HDTV does not display 720p at all, and if so downscales it to 480p. Another says it does handle 720p and upscales it to 1080i.

Does anyone here have an idea if it does handle 720p or not?

And if so does it upscale to 1080i or downscale to 480p?

I really need a concrete answer on this.

I really like this TV however i need the option to hook up 720p sources(ie..a couple XBox games) in the near future.

TIA

I have the 27" model (TXM2796?). If I set my STB to 720p, it displays just a bunch of diagonal lines and other garbage... no errors or anything, just looks like the TV can't handle the higher horizontal scan frequency of 720p. So clearly the set does not convert 720p to 480p or 1080i either.

Trust the specs... indeed, only 480i/p and 1080i.

Many of the lower cost HDTV sets do not support 720p. If you just use an HD STB it doesn't matter because the STB can convert all other formats to 1080i for the TV.
