This would be for general living room TV viewing not HT so I don't really need the extra resolution -- still using my Marquee 8500 CRT for movies. The price on the 42" ED is attractive but the extra size would make a big difference.

Thanks.

No not that I am aware of. Benq makes a 46"EDTV. people seem to be able to except a SD picture quality. This unit can be had online for well under $4000.00. Its best that you get and chance to demo you your self with an SD signal. Don't trust other people oppions on it. The greater pixel count on a 50" plasma is the only thing that keeps SD picture bearable on 50" plasmas but at a price. My dream system would 50" plasma for day time.Front project pulled down in front of the plasma for the big night time shows.

AFAIK, all 50" plasmas are 1280 x 768 or 1365/1366 x 768, which means they're HD, not ED. IMO, you need the higher resolution in the 50" size to get decent PQ for DVD watching, etc.
