So, my question is if anyone makes a quality blu-ray player that has smooth fast forward and rewind? (yes I have searched this forum, more on that later)

Like many people, I now have a couple HD screens in the house and bought my first blu-ray player in December once the format debate was resolved. I got the Sony bdp-s350. (yes I have seen the owners thread on this player).

Picture and sound quality are fine. Not being a hardcore audiophile I suppose I expect a player to play whatever the standard is accurately, and also be pleasant to use. The Sony bdp-s350 is awful. Long start-up time, big lags any time you jump around the disc or into menus, annoying delays any time you jump ahead or behind (you have to wait 5 seconds before your 10 second rewind actually gets there), and most annoyingly is the lack of a frame advance and smooth fast forward and rewind.

I know this is old news to most of you reading this, but I was surprised that new technology, as complex as the compression may be, does not work as nicely as "old" DVD technology. So, I'm hoping I just bought a budget player and someone can reccommend another model that will give me the navigation functionality I was used to on any DVD player I have ever owned!

Thanks much, I sincerely appreciate any feedback on the topic.

(I did search this forum for info and did find other people with similar complaints. However, the shear volume of posts made it impossible to narrow down any search to the answer I was looking for. That's good, it is a popular forum and if someone points me to the exact same question that has already been answered, I'll thank you in advance! I looked.

One point I forgot to add (while everyone is probably steaming past this thread anyway as "old news") is the following...

I was surprised that DVD fast forward is just as annoyingly slow as BD (Blu-Ray) performance!

...had kind of hoped that the jerky performance was due to some ridiculously high data rate or compression format of the blue-ray, but surely the old DVDs would play normally, but nope. No dice.

In any event, I need to buy a 2nd blu-ray player and will wait until I hear if there is one with traditional fast navigation options. (other than buying a Play Station)

Thanks again.
