About 6 years ago or so, somewhere on the internet, I found this very cool , very simple small file that you put in a certain windows folder, that basically listed any CD audio tracks on a disc as .wav files in windows explorer...this essentially took out the need for any kind of program to convert CD tracks to uncompressed .wav files....I've hunted and hunted for this tiny file, but can't find it anywhere or any reference to it...any search I try, brings up a TON of conversion programs, which this tiny file made unnecessary...anyone know what I'm talking about and where to find it?

I believe you are referring to "cdfs.vxd". (Compact Disc File System - Virtual Device Driver). It only works in 16-bit Windows like Windows 98. The hacked version of that file displayed *.cda tracks as *.wav files. It was only good for that task as far as I can remember. If used for any other optical disc task, things crashed.

I didn't use it much. There were too many good rippers out there. Just google cdfs.vxd and you'll get a refresher.

ah yes!, now I remember...it was SO handy for importing CD tracks into editing software among other things...no waiting for any ripping process...
