Does C.C. extended warranty cover bulbs?

1629 Views 24 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  Hoser25
Just got off the phone w/ a C.C. store manager discussing exchanging my brand new 60VS810 and of course he brought up the extended warranty.. Pricing wise, it seems pretty fair.. but what intrigued me is he said it would cover the bulb if it burns out..

I've always heard extended warranties don't cover bulbs.. Has anyone had a C.C. warranty cover their bulb?

Thanks from a RP newbie.

Yes, they cover the bulb. That is the biggest selling point for the extended warranty on DLP/LCD RPTVs. I've only had a few people not get the warranty. It is definitly covered..

I believe only Panasonic carries the bulb for 1 year.
Yes I work for CC, yes it covers all bulbs on tvs.
Interesting...as I bought my Mitsu 62525 at G.G. and then specifically told me the extended warranty DID NOT cover bulbs. And couldn't you know it...mine (2 months old) is having problems this weekend. Covered on the original warranty...phew.

Is this a C.C. thing or is there confusion as to what is and isn't covered?

From my experience, it is usual for the bulb not to be covered simply because that is the thing most likely to go pop and lose the insurance company their profit. Of course, you have to know to ask about the bulb, because if it isn't covered they won't volunteer that little tidbit of information. Kudos to CC for providing a decent warranty.

Hi Jason,

1)

This is mainly in response to the blinking LED (Lamp error) problem that you had. I'm interested in your final fix--

Was it successful?

Did it involve the power supply?

Did the problem ever reappear?

Do you know the specific repair items replaced?

My set only turns on 1 time out of 8 or 9 tries. Usually, it just does its Blue LED blink cycle, quickly followed by a Blue-Red-red rippling LED blink effect (make sense?) Then it goes into Blue-blinking shutdown. Then it goes Off with the Lamp LED remaining lit. This ostensibly means the LAMP is bad.

What was your experience on the Lamp LED issue?

2)

I also bought my Hit 50V500 from CC in Santa Clara, CA. Big problems with them. They sold me the unit but did not Honor the $300 Rebate. The Store Manager that promised me he would honor it, left the company after the sale.:(

I can't believe that you bought an extended warranty without reading all of the fine print. You are a GREAT customer. Sir, just sign here for your extended warranty and trust me it covers almost everything. Have a great day.
Yeah CC covers the lamp on the set. As far as your LED problem...did you call CC service center to see if they will send a tech out there. It sounds like your board is bad.

Thanks, Samoa.

Actually, the "LED problem" is probably a false sensor on the Lamp. I've got a tech from Precision TV coming out later this week. (stay at home, wait around, hope they are more knowledgeable than yourself at diagnosing and fixing Hits.)

So, I'll find out soon enough if they have a repair procedure for this problem (sequencing LEDs at power on, followed by Auto-power-off with Lamp LED error light on.)

yes I can confirm that CC warranty covers the bulbs.

I am just wondering if there is a possibility that I buy the TV from CC and get a warranty someplace else ??

There are a couple of reasons for my thought:

1) Buying warranty directly from the insurer (say warrantech or somebody) may be less expensive than gowing through the middleman (CC).

2) A regular warranty (one that doesnt cover the bulb) costs about $250-300 or so. A bulb costs $200-250. Effectively the cost of a stripped-down warranty + bulb

You'd have to ask Warrantech if they'll do it. You cannot buy a set somewhere else and then a warranty from CC however.

CC's warranty will cover any defect short of you watching the Pat's lose to Indy this week and throwing your remote through the screen. I just had the illustrious color wheel whine taken care of on my 507W1.

GG up to this point has not covered the bulb. There are rumblings that that may change. I would call them.
yep... im a senior sales person @ CC and it covers the bulb... no questions about it... my neighbor just replaced the bulb on his HLN before it blew (he questions the dark picture) i called the service center for him and had some1 here in 2 days to take care of the problem for him
Best Buy also covers the bulb with their extended warranty.
You can add the Warrantech warranty to other stuff as long as it's w/i a certain period of time.

I had my roommate put one on my sister's laptop. Much cheaper.

He said they have warranties for TV's that are 2 and 4 yr extensions, but his lamp coverage is an optional add-on and it seems to cover for only 3 yrs... weird.

The plus for him is that they are completely a middleman in the process. Any issues are taken up w/ Warrentech direct. This is not the same as CC and BB where you go take your frustration out on the store. He beats them out pretty significantly. I rec'd you read the paperwork w/ warranties.

 He says to send the business his way.

There may be remote throwing, but it won't be because of the Pats losing!

The Pats are going to beat the Colts....again!

Joe :p
hey webrat, sorry I have been out of town. My fix was to swap the tv, it was only 3 weeks old. More then likely, it was a bad sensor though. It only did this after 8 hours or more of viewing.
I know CC’s and BB’s warranty cover the bulb but BB’s warranty does not explicitly state this in writing. Does circuit city explicitly state this in writing? Go check the BB warranty yourself. It does not mention the word BULB or LAMP at all. Yet everyone at BB will swear it does. I know first hand that it does cover the bulb but I am cautious about that fact not being in writing. Basically, the BB and CC drones can say absolutely any false statement they want. Their employers are not responsible for their statements. If it is not in writing then you can’t prove anything! Trust me I learned the hard way.

Buyer Beware!

Well, I don't know how many damn times I've posted links to the document that shows that Best Buy does cover it. Trust me, I've posted it here and they do. You can search my posts for it, it is a pdf file called p.pdf. The post explains it all.:)

I made the CSR over the phone swear it up and down 3 times before I bought CC's EW. Yes, it covers the bulb. Yes, and yes again.

Whew! :)

I absolutely agree with you. I know that they cover it now. However, Best Buy gives the customer no written statement to that affect. The documents you displayed were internal memos correct? Those are not available to the general public, correct? Go check the warranty brochure. It says nothing about bulbs. Basically, if you walk up and ask does BB cover the bulb then you are taking the salesmen’s word for it and we no what that is good for. Best Buy could easily come back one year from now and say that their warranty doesn’t cover the bulb and the average customer could not prove otherwise unless they had access to the documents you provided.
