I have wondered the same thing. I think I remember one HD program; but can't remember what it was. TSN-HD is about as bad. One CFL game so far, and on Sunday night, one ESPN game.

On a related note, wasn't there supposed to be a new HD station called Toronto 1 (?) coming on line about now?

I believe Toronto 1's launch date is September 19th if I am not mistaken, and it they actually use more output power than a light bulb I might actually get to see it.

That's correct about the date, daredevil23.

In regards to Citytv, they have had great difficulties securing HD transfers from American studios. So has TMN -- the vast majority of their HD titles are from by Alliance/Atlantis, who distribute the independents (New Line, Miramax, etc.) and Dreamworks.

Let's also bear in mind that Citytv is just a local, independent station. How much programming in HD have most American local stations produced? Exactly none. Citytv has produced two specials in HDTV.

They also went HD in the middle of the season, as soon as they were allowed. When they were acquiring the programming for the season, HD wasn't yet on the horizon for broadcast TV in Canada

Toronto1, who are starting from scratch, will apparently be producing all their local programming in HD. It will be interesting to see if they have better luck obtaining HD movies.

In a month I haven't seen a single HD program on CityHD or TSNHD. What bugged me today was the season premier of Enterprise on City and it wasn't full screen. What was the deal with that? It was larger than 4x3 letterbox but not full screen.

Yes toronto one both hd and sd feeds will be there from day one.

1. Citytvhd is the biggest waste of bandwith of all time, and tsnhd has showed the us open in hd and sunday night football in hd and a few pool games as well.

personally i have never seen a hd program on city, i seen a episode of enterprise a few days back that was full 16X9 which looked to me to be 480p

citys upconverted reg. sd feed has very very small 4x3 black side bars, much less than other nets like cbs for example, i would say half size others

Gary -- I have no info (not even a hint) on when SportsNet HD will be on BEV. My guess would be, when TSN HD is on Rogers.

Toronto1's programming will include a 3 1/2 hour morning show "Toronto Today", a nightly news show, a 3-times weekly variety show "The Toronto Show," the reality series "Exchanging Vows" in which opposite and same-sex couples compete to plan the other couple's dream wedding, the reality series "Hooked Up" in which 10 women and 10 men look for love in the Rocky Mountains, and a new improv show from Second City.

Most or all original programming should be in HD. How much interest it will hold for anyone outside Toronto is anyone's guess.

American imports include talk shows from Ellen Degeneres, Sharon Osbourne and Wayne Brady, as well as Monday Night Football and movies.

As I mentioned earlier, we'll have to wait and see if they have any more success at getting HD versions from the studios than City and TMN have had.

There are also rumours that the Canadian network CTV will be going HD this fall.

Well we know (thanks to HDNet) that some CBC programming is already HD (An American in Canada), but I wouldn't expect anything this year.

As long as it's in place for the coverage of the Gay Games in 2006, I'll be happy!

The debut of Toronto 1 next week should be interesting since they're built from the ground up with HD in mind, digital from the start. I doubt Toronto 1's local HD stuff will have any interest whatsoever to our American friends, with the exception maybe of Monday Night Football for those who cant get ABC in HD on cable or OTA.

Gee Gary, that's pretty much the same way we feel about channels aimed at straight guys, but you don't see us here putting them down.

At least PrideVision isn't pushing bigotry.

It is interesting the different definitions of HDTV

It appears that in the USA HDTV is either a 720 or 1080 picture except fox.

When it comes to Canada is it some type of upconvert.

I believe CITY started out with the expectations that their program would replace the similar American transmission with the Canadian content commercials.

BEV has some agreement with the crtc that they will not substitute programs

A classic example last week the Kurt Russel film was on Sunday at 9pm CBS HDTV and City some type of up convert.

TSN which operates Discovery was somewhat similar. CBS had the HDTV of US Open and they were running a simulcast upconvert.

In fairness to them I have see one or two hdtv and it was the US Open.

Perhaps Toronto 1 the new station will run more HDTV than anticipated,to come on line Septrember 19

This is so completely not true.

WRAL, KING-TV, KOMO-TV, need I go on?

There are HUNDREDS of hours of locally produced HD out there.

Yes, you need go on. Exactly THREE stations, in two cities, that went HD several years ago.

How many others are there, because those are the only ones I've ever heard mentioned here doing regular HD programming?

How much hi-definition programming were they doing in their first year on the air? How much do you think Citytv will be doing five years from now?

Regardless of where it's coming (locally or not) at least the networks have content to show almost every day where as CITY shows basically nothing. If they can't produce any content then what's the point of going HDTV?
