Does Everybody Want a PJ After Seeing Yours?

1871 Views 29 Replies 27 Participants Last post by  Tim Glover
I got my Mitsubishi HC1500 in November and have had quite a few family and friends over to watch football. Right now I'm just projecting onto a white wall, but I'm planning to make a screen.

In just this short time, one of the guys who watched a couple of games with us has ordered a PJ and two others say they are planning to do it too. Do you guys have the same experience of people buying their own PJs once they've seen yours? Kinda makes you feel warm all over, doesn't it?

Absolutely. I just think people don't think of it when they go out and buy that 47" TV that costs 3x more than a PJ.
Projectors can be cool, but honestly don't you pretty much have to have a very darkened room to enjoy it 100%??...most projector set up's I see look very washed out with just a small amount of light in the room.
most of my friends live in northern california and dont have light controlled rooms and their viewing rooms are relatively small. after seeing my set up (Mits HC3000), they are somewhat interested in front projection but I would say most still prefer flat panel TVs.
Some do....Most,bow to the god that is BestBuy and spend $$$$ on 47+inch plasmas...
Yes they do. If they say they dont, they are lying.

Really, who wouldnt want a huge 100 inch plus image thats as good as a plasma? Its like wishing you had a smaller yoohoo

Yes !!!

The wife had a girls night out so I had to stay home and watch the kids .

when all the girls came back from Dancing and having a few cocktails one of the ladies came back in My theater room and sat down on the couch while I was watching a movie on my

Infocus SP-7210.

Having maybe a few to many she yells out loud ,

JESUS CHRIST!!!!!

where in the HELL did you find the time to go buy and install a PLASMA THAT quick. That wasn't there when we left.

that PLASMA is ENORMOUS.

IT Must have cost you a FORTUNE .

I had to prove to her it was a projector by raising the electric screen.

She felt like an idiot to say the least.

the next day her husband showed up in disbelief.

long story short he loves his new SP-7210.

cheers

I agree 100%, but i also think the darkness brings you into whatever your watching. No light = no distractions.

Actually, no. One of my sisters-in-law does not watch TV on anything bigger than 20 inches because she claims it makes her "sea-sick" (so my choice of Spider-Man 2 during the L-train fight with Doc Ock was not a popular demo with her
).

Otherwise, just about everyone has said yes they would like one, but relatively few of them have the proper space to do it well (and among those who do, HT is simply not that much of a priority for them).

I don't have a cave but I can watch during the daytime with a little bit of effort ie. black tarp over the large back windows.

Otherwise, I just figure this projector "feature" allows me to get more done during the day! I can only imagine how much time I would burn if I had a light controlled room.
Well most people ask me how much, where I got, it, how I like it, etc. Few are willing to make the commitment though. They just start to come over a lot to watch sports and movies.

Most are very interested, but they can't seem to get their puny minds around it lol. With the set ups I've seen online, I know that where there's a will, there's a way.

I have 8 friends in my poker group that saw my set-up several months back. Two now own projectors of their own, 2 are kicking themselves for buying the sets that they have, one is rushing to finish his basement so he can put one in and the other three all took measurements and came to the conclusion that they couldn't fit in a big enough screen. I'd say they were impressed.

The funniest part about it was that they all came over and said it looked nice and we got down to playing poker. It was the next day (pressumably after they went home and saw what they were living with) that my phone rang off the hook the whole day!

Rather than do a lot of retyping:

Oh yes. It's a common reaction. Especially after they hear how much one costs in relation to the much smaller sets they've been looking at or bought.

Yes they do.I had a few people over for the Jones/Trinidad fight and when it was a break it was all the questions. My cousin said that he had a finished basement and after seeing my setup he is going to get it prepped for his own theater room.Like someone said who wouldn't want an 100 inch t.v.
Many people still think PJ is $$$$$$$ and blurry like 10 years ago. They do not understand that HD has changed the landscape. I had a friend who said, "My 32" TV does not look as good as your 100" screen." I told him "Get HD, don't watch standard cable on your $1,000 TV" .... and everybody who comes over for super bowl wants to know "How much it costs?" -- except the snooty ones who assume it costs alot. BUT most want everything hidden and easy. Now that does cost more.
I have had a fair number of people over. No one has bought a projector. When questioned, they say that the idea of a darkened room doesn't comport with their view of the home's visual display as the modern-day equivalent of the old hearth.
