I am ready to pull the trigger on the HC5500 but want to make sure the upgrade is worth it.I am ready to upgrade to a 1080p projector but not just for the rez but also for the contrast upgrade.

stratman50 -- Yes, the HC5500 has a higher contrast ratio (therefore, better black levels) than the HD1000. I replaced my MT700 (1280 x 720, DLP) with the HC5500, and now have a significantly better PJ. It's so much better that I'm up to almost 1400 hours in 7 months of use.

The only down-side is that the HC5500 is about half as bright as your HD1000, if that is important to you. It wasn't for me, since I had to put a ND2 filter on my MT700 to get the image brightness down to the level that is acceptable to me (for my screen and viewing conditions).

See http://www.projectorreviews.com/mits...000u/index.php and http://www.projectorreviews.com/mits...5500/index.php for the reviews of each model.

Thanks for the info.I have read all the reviews about 100 times and they never really compare the 2 together. My setup right now is a 100" Dalite matte white screen in my light controlled basement.
