I am ready to pull the trigger on the HC5500 but want to make sure the upgrade is worth it.I am ready to upgrade to a 1080p projector but not just for the rez but also for the contrast upgrade.

stratman50 -- Yes, the HC5500 has a higher contrast ratio (therefore, better black levels) than the HD1000. I replaced my MT700 (1280 x 720, DLP) with the HC5500, and now have a significantly better PJ. It's so much better that I'm up to almost 1400 hours in 7 months of use.


The only down-side is that the HC5500 is about half as bright as your HD1000, if that is important to you. It wasn't for me, since I had to put a ND2 filter on my MT700 to get the image brightness down to the level that is acceptable to me (for my screen and viewing conditions).

Thanks for the info.I have read all the reviews about 100 times and they never really compare the 2 together.My setup right now is a 100" Dalite matte white screen in my light controlled basement.
