I was lamenting missing out on both the panasonic rp82, and the xp-30, and someone suggested the dmr-e50.


Does anyone know if it has the faroudja chipset in it? That is my primary interest at this point.

No, none of the Panasonic DVD recorders (or current model players) use the Faroudja de-interlacer. Your only choice for a new model and good quality with it is the Denon DVD-1600. The newer Denon models like the 910 and 1200 have Faroudja too, but have softer image and its setup with CSS on which causes a color flicker bug.
