Does anyone know if the Panasonic PV-D4762 combo VCR/DVD unit will de-interlace the VCR side? With it's Sage-Faroudja de-interlacer, that would be a cool feature.

This truly would be a COOL feature.

I phoned Panny and they sent me a fax of the jack pack at the back; NO, unfortunately, 480p component outs apply ONLY to the DVD output!

Bummer!

As far as I know, NO progressive DVD player has an input that allows an external source to utilize the de-interlacing chip.

This is most unfortunate.

If anyone knows of one, please let us in on it!

spexman,

Thanks for the info, I guess the market for de-interlacers is too small for the mass marketers to worry about.

You're probably right that the marketers do not feel this is a feature worth putting into their players as it would likely increase the price.

That being said, it is such a huge waste of the de-interlacing chip to ONLY utilize it for DVD de-interlacing and not any other source!

I am sure there are others like us that WOULD pay for this feature!

I'm still hoping BUT expecting the worse!
