Progressive scan works on any TV that accepts progressive scan input (of course ;) ); not just HDTV:s. Component inputs doesn't necessarily mean that a TV accepts progressive scan.

Well, the specs say the 36XBR450 is "HD Capable," supporting 1080i, 480p, and 480i. 480p means progressive output playing NTSC DVDs is supported. If you care about PAL, you should probably check first.


To your original question, it is certainly possible for a display to support 480p without supporting the full HDTV spec - many computer monitors fall into this category. But I *think* it's unusual for a consumer TV to do this.
