I currently use a WinTV-HD card for my HDTV reception.


However, my reception is less than stellar.


Would buying a new/different HDTV receiver (HTPC or Standalone) change my reception?


Does anyone have experience with multiple HDTV receivers, and receiving substantially different reception quality with different receivers?


I hate to plunk down the $$ for a new receiver, only to discover that it's my location/antenna/... that is the problem, and not my receiver.


Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Some receivers do pick up stations better than others. However, upgrading your antenna will probably give you better results if you don’t already have a real good one (like one of the better Channel Masters).

The newer ones generally get much better reception than the older ones, but seeing as everyone's situation is different, all you can do is try one out and see if it helps.


I'd go to CC or BB, and get something that you can return if the newer box doesn't help.

My SIR-165 OTA is no doubt better than my Sony HD-100 OTA.
