Does Replay TV have an HD recorder? No.

Any one out there know if replay has a HD recorderd yet? And if so is there any plans to have an integrated satellite reciever in it like the tivo unit. I had both and strongly feel the replay was far superior. Thanks

gashwho,

ReplayTV is essentially dead. The current boxes will continue to be supported with the guide service, but their new owner (D&M Holdings) has discontinued ReplayTV DVR development.

If you haven't had a Tivo recently, they've added features like Internet scheduling and DVR-to-DVR transfers. They are also about to release a new software update with a feature called "Tivo2Go" -- which lets you transfer recordings to a PC for viewing, editing, or burning to DVD; it may also let you transfer recordings over the Internet to other Tivos associated with your account. Tivo also has better commercial skipping features than the [current] ReplayTV software.

DirecTV offers a HDTV Tivo now with four tuners -- to record any two HDTV channels at once while playing back a previous recording. Tivo has said we might hear something from them on CableCard (to record HDTV from cable and OTA) around the end of the year.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know replays days were numbered. The tivo's must have come a long way in the last four yrs. I'm going to look into them in the future. Sounds like I should wait till the first of the year. Again THANKS
Am I missing something, whats going on with tivo? I'd like to know before I invest in another dead end recording device, ie. remenmber beta recorders?
gaswho,

Tivo has said they need to hit three million subscribers to break even. I believe they're trying to do it by the end of this year or early next. With their current base, they can remain viable until at least 2008, but they'll need to meet their subscriber goals to last well beyond that.

Unlike D&M Holdings (the owner of ReplayTV), Tivo continues to invest a lot of money in software and hardware R&D for their DVR platform, although not as much as they once did.

An e-mail the I received from a product development executive at ReplayTV eluded to the fact that they "have not officially announced a HD recorder, yet".

I bet they are not out of the game.

I hope Denon and Marantz make an HD recorder of some type. I would be amazed if the product actually has the ReplayTV name on it but it might very well utilize ReplayTV technology. That is good news if the email means there is a chance or better yet, that there will be a product. The Denon DVD players are very good as are other D&M products.

Chris
In the Replay forum there was a discussion on a future looking presentation that did look like it had HD recording in the future, not sure if it would be called a ReplayTV or have the ReplayTV interface but the presentation looked promising, My guess is we'll see more summer next year. I'd love to record in HD but I'll be okay holding out for a bit until there are a few more options.
Please be more precise in your thread titles. See my edit.

Please keep the thread on topic. (No Tivo v. Reply flame wars.) Thanks.
Did I miss something? Flame war?
