I'm thinking of replacing my Sony 10HT with an HS20. Does the HS20 have a 5V or 12V trigger to automatically drop an electric screen when powered up like the 10HT does?

I had my HS20 and screen professionally installed, and one of the problems they mentioned is the lack of a trigger to lower the screen. They worked around it by using a current sensing box on the power plug driving a relay to lower the screen.

It works fine except for one little glitch: I can't really adjust the sensitivity finely enough to raise the screen when the bulb goes off but the fan stays on, without causing it to trip on the startup current and do a little lower/raise dance. So I live with it and let the screen go back up a few minutes after lamp off.

Does none of your other gear have a 12v trigger output; Pre-amp, amp, receiver, power-conditioner, etc.? I use one of the customizeable triggers on my Parasound C2 to trigger the screen after 7 seconds when any video source is selected; but I have 4 pieces of gear that have trigger outputs I could use. Problems arise when you want to listen to a CD and your trigger is not customizeable. You could always wire a manual switch in line with your main power to the screen to prevent it deploying when you just want music. That way the trigger will still be active, say when your amp powers on, but no power will be present to deploy it. Just a thought....

I bought an IR interface for my Firehawk to drop the screen; it works with all my remotes and allows me to drop the screen independently of the fan or bulb switching on/off. I thought I would dislike this, but actually I prefer it now since my equipment is all behind the screen and I can load the DVD and set up the processor while the projector bulb is 'warming up' and I can shut everything down while the projectors 'cools down' after use. It was VERY expensive, but worth it to me.
