Does Stewart make a unity gain or 1.1 gain screen?

... I haven't been able to get a straight answer from any of the dealers. Jason sez they can custom spray one to unity gain.

They do have matte/1.0 gain screens (I imagine there are probably some people here that have one...). I don't know how common they are anymore with the Greyhawk being so close in gain, but it shouldn't cost you any more than their other screens (custom order or not). I believe they can probably custom spray any gain you want (but there may be a cost associated with that). Anyways, I'm pretty sure they list a 1.0 gain surface as a standard product, check their website. www.stewartfilm.com

Dear John,

Yes... Stewart Filmscreen produces am almost perfect unity gain screen called Snomatte 100. It is not normally used in HT though. The snomatte material is designed to duplicate in a very large scale the reflective properties of magnesium carbonate, MGC03, which is the industry lab standard used for calibrating and measuring reflected light. Snomatte is used in extremely critical applications. We supply this material to mostly film labs, military defense contractors and a few laser technology firms.

Thanks Don. Unless the snomatte 100 is affordable for HT, gray hawk it is for me. Thanks again.

John

The Snomatte and GrayHawK material is the exact same price.

... isn't the the snomatte used in HT applications? Also, with the new DLPs Sharp, Marantz, Seleco would you recommend the gray hawk .95 or the snomatte. Picture quality is more important to me than adding a few ft.lam. However, if the quality (contrast, black levels, color) aren't going to be compromised very much, I would like to go with the snomatte and add a few ft. lams. Thanks for the info.

John,

As I stated earlier in this thread I do not recommend Snomatte for HT use. It will not add any punch or image fildelity

to your system. It will also be the first and most susceptible screen surface to wash out from any room cross reflection or stray ambient light. If you are thinking of purchasing a screen manufactured by a commercial screen company, then take advantage of the optical coatings that they offer. If you are set on a matte white screen, then you may want save your hard earned money and just paint the wall with flat white, absolutely no gloss, and frame it with a black border. You can get about a .97 matte white screen this way.

Don

Appreciate your help. Gray hawk .95 gain it is. Thanks again Don. Now if only I could get definitive answers like this for my projector Qs, I will be a happy man :)
