I am looking for a 36" or very close direct view HDTV either widescreen or with anamorphic squeeze at less than $2000 street. I already know about the Sony Wega sets, but I am looking for other options at a lower cost.

I like the look of the RCA set in that class, but it has no anamorphic squeeze. Has RCA announced any new sets in that class that do have the squeeze? Are there any Panasonics or others that meet my criteria?

All advice and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

I recently purchased the Hitachi 36SDX01S from Sears.com for $1399.00. Does the sqeeze. Amazon.com has the older 36SDX88B for $1400. supposedly has a slightly better tube, but I've been unable to verify this myself.

If you get the 2001 version of the 01S it supposedly has an improved line doubler with 3:2 detection.
