The title says it all. There was some uncertainty before release about this. Now I would really like to know the reality.

The soon to arrive 40 series Fujitsus, by all accounts, will not have fans.

Yes, the 50PHD7UY has a lot of fans, including me.:D

J/K, seriously though I wouldn't think so as there is no tuner inside the TV so there isn't nearly as much of a need to cool down the TV

Thanks for your new thread. I can clearly see 2 large fans on the rear shot of your new 50".

So the question is - How audible are they? Are they on all the time?

I understand what you are saying but the 7UY brochure is quite ambiguous about the prescence of fans in the larger models. If you read the small print it says they have "a noise reducing silence design" or something similar to that.

It has a fan, and it runs all the time when the display is powered on, but I can only hear it if I put my ear within a couple inches of it. It seems to run at a low rpm.

Previous 50" models have 4 fans, the current 7UY 50" has 2 fans. Yes they run all the time when the plasma is on.

The brochure is correct.

I immediately found two fans in my 50phd7uy when it arrived. They produce almost no noise, unless you stick your ear right next to the fan.

"Fan less" - 7uy has LESS FANS than 6uy :D

Yes, those are two fans on the rear picture in the other thread. If they are on all the time then it is amazing quiet! I hear nothing in the room.

While the Pansonic commercial plasma brochure is correct with their printed words, they play with some marketing trickery. Notice that the contrast ratio is boasted at 4000:1 but the astericks notes that this only applies to the SD models. Additonally, page 5 of the brochure touts "Fan-Less Quiet Operation," yet this applies to only the under 50in models. The notation immediately below states that the 65in and 50in models features a "noise-supressing silence design." Which we all know to be fans -- albeit extremely quiet ones.
