I'm trying to figure out a way to backup my game saves and VC games before shipping my console out to Nintendo for repairs but since the remotes aren't working I can't do anything on the menu. Can the GC controller work to access the menu or does it only work in GC and VC games? I couldn't find this info anywhere on Nintendo's website and I don't really want to run out and purchase a GC controller (I probably will eventually just for RE4, but I digress) if this doesn't work.

I want to say it will not work, because I read somewhere else that to get in to a GC game, you use the wii-mote until the game actually starts loading. I do not have any first hand experience though, so I'm not 100% sure.

it doesn't work for me. unless someone knows some trick, i don't think you can even navigate the home menu without a remote.

no it doesnt, but the classic controller does, so you can navigate without the wiimote

Provided, of course that the remote it's plugged into can sync, which it can't :-(
