I've pm'ed several people over the past few weeks, and have VERY few replies. Many were in reference to advice offered (i.e. "pm me for more information" offers), or spare items that they had that I needed.


Anyhow, all but 3 people have ignored my pm's completely (you can tell when they logged in last, and if they've viewed your pm). I have even started two transactions via pm but then the person quit responding. I'm not sure if it's the pm system (as MIS-MAN claims, for example) or if people simply don't have the courtesy to at least respond "no thanks", or "I don't have time to deal with you now, you frikkin troll", or whatever.


I don't mean to be a whiner. I just find it interesting that of all of the boards that I've frequented, this one seems to be only one that pm's are treated in this manner. If I've offended anyone with my pm's by intruding into their time, I am certainly sorry. If you tell me so, I won't bother you any longer.

Sometimes people don't have the popup notifications enabled or popups

blocked so they don't realize they have PM.

I personally hate PM stuff. I already have three inboxes -- having to check one more place just blows. I know I can enable email notification, but I really just do not want it. Too much hassle. Just email me directly (instead of the PM->email two step) is what I'd prefer.


I do check the PM stuff every now and then, but if folks need to get in contact with me, it's best by email.

It also kinda bothers me too. Especially when they ask me a question about something that I have no knowledge of. I end up telling them that they should post their question in a public message to get the answer they want, but rarely do they ever turn around and do so.


Maybe they are afraid of ridicule

I'd suggest to those people to make a fake name and say whatever they want. That's what I did (i.e. icecow).

The only one who ignored my pms was ReplayLyndon, and he finally responded via e-mail to one of my questions, so I would say that while Gerry speaks for himself, his opinion is shared by others.
