I have started to put together a Marty-Cube...I'm glad i started with the cube to learn a few do's and don'ts...My plan is to make a full Marty with a 18" that i'm waiting for from Mark. Just like to give a shout out to LTD02 for his help, Thanks John.

My best friend

That is not an 18" right?
the cube was designed for an 18" driver. Not sure how its going to work with the 12".

Either it's a 12" or dogger is lying about the enclosure size and that dog is a doberman.

Seriously though, how old is the plus driver?

LOL, ok that was funny! I was starting to worry about my size perception. I started my cube today and the driver takes up almost the entire front. Thought I did something wrong. Maybe Canada had changed their measuring system and cube meant 48x48x48 or something.
C'mon cess ,

Get that cube done. I want you to drool ! :sly:
LTD02 AKA John...said it would work...he's the Guru...anyway its done I just have to get some help carrying it...not to sure what the weight is but it sure feels heavy.

What were your steps between the plain mdf box and making it black?
Just gave it a lite sanding and painted with a brush....in the ports i used black spray paint...

bang!

that was pretty darn quick. :)

i didn't ask if there was any gasket on that driver. of course you want a good air seal from the driver to the cab. if you get any whistling or other strange noises a run of thin weather stripping can be used for a gasket.

somebody asked about the driver. i looked around at some of the builds that had that driver in them and then tried to back out performance for this enclosure. it looked like it would work quite well (pretty flat down to tune with a gentle rolloff right at the end).

as for finishing, there are several ways to paint mdf. if it is not sealed up first, then the paint will "soak" in and expose the end grain and so forth. i think dogger's looks pretty cool the way it is. for folks who want more of a single finish the whole way across, some method of sealing up the mdf first either with something like thinned shellac or high build automotive primer. then a sand. then topcoats of paint.
