Dolby Digital/Dolby True HD 7.1

500 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Fatebender
I have switched from a Denon 5803 analog setup to a Denon X 4000 HDMI setup. Playing a Blu-ray that is both automatically picked up in the Blu-Ray settings as well as manually checked for Dolby HD 7.1 the receiver is showing and playing Dolby Digital 5.1. I tested in the X 4000 setup that the tests sounds are playing in the rear right and left surrounds. What setting am I overlooking?

Thanks,

sTu

Most players default to loss audio configuration out of box. You will have to configure the player to bitstream HD audio. Typically, there will be two settings, one to configure whether bitstream or decode to PCM. The other is whether to mix in secondary audio. You need set the player to bitstream and secondary audio off.

Turn off Secondary Audio on your blu ray player. Then you should get the lossless audio track from HDMI.

Player just finished updating and I found the secondary audio setting in the blu ray player. Very much appreciate the responses. I somewhat remember this now from many years ago when setting up the 5803 On to Audyssey 32.
