Dolby digital games

600 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Version
I just hooked up my back speakers. I tested them using the test on the receiver, works fine. Now I boot up my xbox, dts, dolby digital, ect.. is all enabled. However, I cannot hear anything coming out of my back speakers, tried halo, soul calibur, 2005 nhl EA, even when I boot up games the receiver says dolby digital surround, and it shows Left speaker, right speaker, center speaker, back left, back right speaker all appear.

So why am i not hearing anything when playing xbox games from the rear speakers? Are the sound just to subtle to notice?

You may need to balance your speaker levels so that you have equal db level from each speaker [ my guess is your rears are too low to hear unless you crank the entire system up ] .

--- Halo and Soul Calibur II have a good amount of rear audio [ Halo much more so ] and you should have no trouble hearing it as long as your system is calibrated properly .

I had boosted the db up for the backspeakers twice as much as the front, and still I cannot hear anything coming out of the rear speakers.
For some reason I have to my receiver to 7 channel stero, this does not make any sense. Why would it have to be in 7 channel stero to get sound?
7 channel stereo copies a 2 channel source into all of your speakers. It is not true surround sound. You need to let your receiver in a mode (not stereo or 7 channel stereo) where it can detect a dolby digital signal and auto switch to the required codec. Your receiver should switch to dolby digital on its own once you start playing the game.

We're all assuming you have an optical cable connection to your receiver. Is that true?
I'm guessing that's the problem too. Do you have the advanced or HD kit hooked up with an optical cable?

If you are using the red and white cables for audio - those are for left and right - stereo.
This my be a stupid question, did you enable doby digital on your xbox console?

--- By his receiver saying it is getting all channels this would imply he is connected properly for Dolby Digital ... but then again ;) .

Hmmm ....

--- Do you get Dolby Digital via your normal DVD player [ on the same receiver via the same connection ] ?

--- If you put a DVD movie in the Xbox do you get 5.1 [ only works if you have the M$ dvd kit or a modded Xbox with dongle free dvd playback software ] ?

Ok must have missed it, now where are those glasses?:D
He posted this in the Receiver forum. He was confused between the surrounds (side in 7.1) and the back surrounds in 7.1.

XBox only supports 5.1 so his back speakers aren't doing anything. This is correct.

For the record Murilo, you should be able to enable DPL IIx over top of DD 5.1 on your Yamaha 5760 and all 7 speakers will start firing with distinct sounds.
