Momitsu 880 Corrects DVI Level Mis-Matches

---------------------------------------

There is a new firmware upgrade (1.15) for the Momitsu 880 DVI output Dvd player. Contrast level (including others) is now user specified.

Contrast is the difference in brightness between the light and dark areas of a picture.

The default 880 contrast setting is for seven bars to be displayed. Simply increase the contrast by one bar (one press), going from seven to eight. This simple adjustment appears to change the video level from limited (16-235) to full range(1-255). Confirmed with THX optimizer test patterns.

In addition this update reportedly improves the picture quality and corrects player stability issues. It did both for me. Now with the HS20, I see images with greater punch (as good as and probably better than HTPC). Read that as an increase in RAW LUMEN OUTPUT. (Hint: this may be why Evan at Project Central is having trouble getting his HS20 under test to reach its correct brightness level).

For a showcase disc, try Finding Nemo. I was completely blow away by the experience (especially in my all black room).

Needless to say, this free firmware update is a must for anyone with an 880 player with a DVI input projector as every picture will look better.

softengr,

Have you had any success with 1:1 pixel perfect mapping with the HS20 & Momitsu V880 through the custom DVI settings?, If you could post them here I would very grateful> "Thanks", Chris.
