DOOM3 widescreen?

I thought you could play DOOM3 in widescreen. I just reinstalled the game on my PC and installed the patch and I don't see a resolution that looks like widescreen in the option screen. Am im forgetting to do something?

Change the line seta r_aspectratio "0" in the DoomConfig.cfg file to seta r_aspectratio "1", and then add the following lines to that same file:

seta r_customHeight "720"

seta r_customWidth "1280"

seta r_mode "-1"
I can't get Doom3 to run in anything other than 640x480 no matter what I try. I add the widescreen settings to the config file but they aren't used. If I set the res to 800x600 inside the game the next time I come in it is 640x480 again. I have a Dell 400SC, MCE2005, 9800Pro hooked up via DVI to a Panny PT50LC13. I just updated to the latest ATI drivers but it didn't help.

Any ideas?
did you get the patch that adds widescreen to doom3?

another doom3 question, does it support 7.1 speakers?
I did install the 1.1 patch. I don't think it supports 7.1, just 5.1 but I could be wrong.
I figured it out after doing a lot of searching. I needed to create and install a custom monitor inf file.

Tried this and had fits, finally dawned on me that I wasn't taking my 6600GT's overscan compensation into account. I run at 1% underscan on my RD50H giving me a res of 1264x712, when I put those numbers in the cfg everything is fine. Just thought I'd mention it in case anybody else has similar troubles. After reading tons of threads here and a few other wide screen gaming boards I never saw it mentioned.

peace.
