double check my wiring

932 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  tabasc07
I have two 12" subwoofers that are 2 ohm SVC. To wire it to get a 4 ohm configuration, I would wire the negative of sub X to the positive of sub Y; then wire the positive of sub X to the positive of the amp, and the negative of sub Y to the negative? I just want to double check before I do anything. Thanks

Yes,series connected. Amp + > + subx / -subx > +suby / -suby > -amp.

Doesn't really matter whether the + from the amp goes to the + on the sub.

Either way it should work only the phase will be reversed.

Phase is pretty important. Plus I'm too anal to wire something up backwards and switch my phase 180deg.

Cool thanks guys. Doh! I was too excited to do all this and i forgot to put it in the enclosure before soldering the sub to the terminal. Now I need to call in a friend so he can help me desolder it. Boooo..Another question, does anyone know where I connect the wires to the amp? I was told to look on the back of the amp and it will be labeled on where to splice and solder. However I can't seem to find it?

You should never have to solder anything to the amp....what amp are you using?
I'm using that 300 watt amp from MCM. Wow, good thing I didn't do that yet. How would I go about it then tundrSQ
Do you have the owners manual? It should have 2 slide on-connectors , and the manual should point you to which one is + and which one is -.

Of course if it has a red and black wire soldered to the circuit board , then you would use but connectors to connect to those.

I just hate to see you use a solder gun and overheat something on the circuit board.
Yea I just found the manual online a while ago and it took me a while to figure out where the "subwoofer output connection". I saw those 2 slide on connectors. Thanks tundrSQ, that helped quite a bit.
