I am about to build my first ever screen after I get my mandrax ceiling mount for my x1. I went to my local fabric shop down the street to buy some Black Out cloth since Joann's was about 20mins away. To my surprise I was able to find Silver PVC at $8 a yard. So I bought 3 yards in addition to my $4 a yard BO cloth. (impulse buy) I was able to coarse them to give me the fabrics in rolls as well to avoid any wrinkles.

Anyways, so now I have 2 sets of fabrics and I'm thinking maybe I should just build a double sided screen. One side BO and the other side Silver PVC with frosted vinyl. A couple of questions:

1. Is it even worth using the blackout screen at this point? From reading the Silve PVC thread, everyone seamed to be particularly impressed with the silver PVC after they were able to diffuse most of the hot spotting with the frosted vinyl.

2. Has anyone else built a double sided screen before? How did you mount both screens? How did you create the black felt border?

3. The fabric shop I went to only had large rolls of black felt. Did you guys just buy like 3 yards worth of black felt also in order to cover the borders of the screens? Or does felt come in smaller widths?

Thanks in advance...

1. Build both. Or build the Silver PVC screen first. The BO cloth is your default matte white screen that you should have no problem with. The Silver PVC is more of an experiment that may or may not meet your satisfaction.

Thanks Gambit. I believe I will build both screens. However, I want to minimize space and build a double sided screen. One side with BO cloth and the other with Silver PVC. Any recomendations on how to get this done? Do I just wrap both sides of the frame and put together a decent border to hit the staples?

Haven't built a double-sided screen out of cloth, but what you describe sounds ok. The only concern is a way to hang it to avoid damaging either side. Maybe a "hook" system that extends out from the wall and attach to your border.

The screen system that I built is out of a hardboard and is conducive to double-sided or swapping out of the screen surface. But probably not what you are looking for.
