I watched it both nights and found it good TV if not great. I did have a thought on one thing, and I can't imagine how it never occurred to me before, the Romans were the original Nazi's.

Except unlike the Nazis, regardless of whatever Christian-themed TV movie would have you believe, Rome was responsible for great advancements in art, culture, engineering, philosophy and the origins of many of the legal and democratic sytems in use today.

Did the Romans also implement a genocidal regime to exterminate an entire people?
Well they were not fond of the Carthaginian resistance to their empire so they got wiped out strategic reasons from what I remember of history.

Empire building back in those times resulted in a lot of cities annihilated, but not usually because their psychotic leader didn't like them personally.
