First of all, I want to start off by blaming every single one of you. Not too long ago, (probably six months), I came across a thread while doing some basic research on an area that I was going to be remodeling; a couple of TVs, a poker room, pool table, etc. The next thing I know I find this website, and now an extreme amount of money and time later I'm now building a home theater; so again all of you are to blame for this!!!

Alright so let's start with the details. First of all, if you have a thread on here I've probably read it at least a three times. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of hours that I've spent trying to educate myself. I know enough to be dangerous which means I dont know as much as I think I do and that's where all of you come in. You're more than welcome to give me ideas and thoughts on what I may want to think about in this area. I will give a shout out to BIGmouthinDC whom I've been keeping up with on e-mail and a few conversations to kind of help me get started on this. I would also tell you that there are so many phenomenal threads including the Dark Knight thread (which is the best build/reference thread on here IMHO) that it would take too much time to list. Lastly, I'd also like to say to anybody out there, the show-me thread that's pinned to the top -- if you've got any type of home theater, please continue to post in the respective categories… this has been a great help to me. When I'm trying to focus on one area, I can't remember the different threads I've read with stuff I've liked, but to be able to go to one area with say just the stages and risers area gives me a quick reference point for a lot of this stuff.

So let's start with the room. You'll notice here that this room is going to be a multi-purpose room; however, I'm going to keep this in the home theater area because really that's the focus of all this, and it's also what I've spent most of my time reading. The overall room is about 1,000 square feet, and we have about an 80 square foot that's not included which goes to the bathroom. I do have certain limitations to the room. I would have loved to have done a room inside of a room, but that ship had already sailed. So the best I'm going to do in terms of sound proofing is double sheet rock and Green Glue I'm not overly concerned, quite frankly, with sound escaping as three sides I don't have to worry about and my neighbor on the other side I don't like anyways, so who cares what he thinks! I just wanted to get a little sound control here and there, and maybe more importantly keep the sound from coming down from the house.

In terms of the room, it is 18' feet wide in the theater area, probably gets out to about 24', 25' feet in the other areas. Overall, the room is probably about 44' long. You'll notice I have three bay windows and a fairly large sliding glass door area which are going to basically be used for acoustical panels and sound support by building some plugs to put in there. I also have 2 columns to contend with. One of the columns I have spent a lot of time thinking about as it sits in the main seating area. However, after checking on the cost of moving it or an alternative the price would have been more than all my equipment and some…. So it stays.

A couple of notes...

I work an INSANE amount of hours so I will do my best to update in a timely manner. (good thing I am an insomniac).

I use a dictation service for long rants like the one above and though my spelling and grammar has never been admired, they are worse and I don't catch everything...

The couch is not going to be there...going to build a bar

Seating is going to be backed up a few feet....

Some equipment thoughts to follow....
