Draper question

274 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Andrew Low
At this time I'm using a 10ft, motorized, tab tensioned, 1.3 gain Draper premier screen. I only bought it because I got a good deal on it, it's to big for my room, and I want 16X9, nor do I need a motorized screen. Looks like I have a chance to sell it, so my question is this...is the screen material in this Draper premier the same as the material used in the M1300 that is sold on this forum?

Thanks Kenny

Draper uses several manufacturers (3 I believe) to create their screen material. Different batches are done by different manufacturers. There are, and will be, variations from one run to another.

My friend has a tab tensioned M1300 that is visibly different in texture than my cineperm M1300. The screen sample Draper sent me is also visibly different than my cineperm (however it does look like the tab tensioned one my friend has).

So there you have it. I've personally seen two different materials that are M1300. And from what I understand, this is "normal".

Ok -- now that you are scared. Don't worry too much. The screen material still looks fantastic with an image on it.

If you are considering the cineperm -- you may want to read up on it. I personally don't think the cineperm is as good a screen as a tab tensioned one. (but I have a cineperm and like it)

So, what your saying is the Tab Tensioned material used in the motorized screen and better than the material used in the permanent mount screens?...man, there just isn't anything simple in front projection is there? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Can you guys recommend any really good 1.3 to 1.5 gain screens at around 92" wide, or links to the screen manufactures...I went to the Draper's link via this forum, but they ownly have 3 types of material, a month or two ago I was at a site (stewart maybe???) that had about 5 or 6 different types of screen material, I'd like to get into a good perm mount at 92" wide for under a grand.

Thanks Kenny

No, what I am saying is if you order M1300 material from Draper you may not get the same fabric every time. The material will always meet the Draper M1300 specification, but it will not be the same from batch to batch.

I think a tab tensioned screen is a superior mounting / frame to the cineperm frame. I believe it will result in a flatter, more uniform screen.
