Rules:

Lets keep it reasonable, lets say your winnings were in the 10-20 mil range and keep the sources video based not film.

Let the fun begin.

I would start out with the Tim Martin Folsom system. Any other ideas?

I think that's an overly ornate theater. Its more for social occasions and less for watching movies. Too busy, too distracting, and way too bright.

Its not to say that I hate his theater--on the contrary. I just believe that something that appeals to my tastes needs to be something more subdued. Of course, its gotta have a couple of big projectors. Everything can be controlled from my fingertips, comfortable seating, a maid to bring me food, a mistress to please when the wife has a headache, etc.

Its a dream, not a reality.

Dual Barco Reality 812's with the Folsum blender and a Faroudja DV5000 making everything 1080p on a constant height screen that was 6 feet high. Auto masking of course, for 4:3, 16:9 and 2:35:1. The 812 can be split between the head with the crt's and the electronics boxes, the heads would be in the theater with the electronics in the equipmpent bunker which would be kept at the ideal temp and humidity for electronics.

I would have Barco design me a PJ that would blow everything else out of the water, have Vutec build me a 13 gain 200" screen, spend the rest on a sound system.

I would want three 9500lc or similar top LC crts, the best htpc to drive it with terabytes of storage, a processor to split the video for panaramic split screen or single screen use, and of course some fine audio gear but not over the top amounts of money for any of it.

Then I'd use the rest of the money wisely such as having 24hr round the clock hot looking and friendly massage girls/cooks/maid service/travel co-ordinator/personal assistant/ etc...

I guess my priorites are off for this thread.

I'd have to start by building two rooms: the theater itself and the equipment room behind the screen wall. That's where the dual stacked CRT projectors would be projecting from mid rear position. Plus all the amps and other heat and noise generators would be back there as well. I'd use remote IR or a wireless remote keyboard or touchscreen to run the system. I'd have a quick access door to the loading side of the DVD player, LD player, etc. Otherwise, everything's out of sight of the viewing room.

The theater would be somewhat unorthodox, on a Grecian or Roman theme with reclining couches instead of chairs. Walls and floors would be reinforced concrete, covered with carpet, wall coverings, murals, hanging tapestries, and heavy drapes. The ceiling would be plaster with an illuminated fresco. A few lights on the sides and a dimmer switch and it's all set. Two doors, no windows, and a perma flow, low volume air exchanger, and it's ready to go.

What would the system be? Well, the big JBL Synthesis One or maybe the Synthesis Hercules. Watch your ears!

And since it's a dream, HTPC would be a Mac G5 dual 2GHz with twin modded ATI Radeon 9800 cards running VLC and a souped up SwitchRes or ported PowerStrip (I paid to have it ported, okay?) running through Firewire to a FireWire savvy card installed in the PJ (I paid for THAT mod too.).

Or something like that.

MIKE: I lived in Goshen for a year; lots of Eby folk there, including Eby Ford as I recall. Oh yeah, my Dad's name first name is Osceola. :)

BTW have you heard the news? Its down to 34? in hell! The Cubs won their division.

Going a bit more off topic here. During lunch today I was at a strip mall in South Bend near work with a co-worker & fellow HT enthusiast. He spotted this sign so we grabbed a picture of it.

I wouldn't know anything about it. Someone on the household staff would anticipate the need and have it installed while I'm away traveling.

I'd use dual NEC XG135LC's with the side by side blend. Other projectors might be brighter/sharper but nothing can match NEC color :D

Then use a 16' wide curved screen with the Silverstar material (is it flexible?) in 2.35AR. Should be no problem since each pj would be doing 8' worth with about the same raster useage as a single pj doing 16:9.

With 10-20 mil I'd buy a sports car, Viagara, and bag me as many 20-something year olds as I could. Theater be damned!

A six stack of 135LCs and whatever it takes to spread a 3840x2160p signal across them. QuadroFX cards I guess.

Then I go with Curt's idea, except no 20 year-old girls when visiting Colorodo.

I'm with Curt on this one! Must be the over 50 crowd mentality working.

Lifter, you forgot the hot, red-headed nymph to do the convergence and back-rubbing. And since convergence is only once in a blue moon, let the rubbing begin. :D

PS With the amount of money we are dreaming about I could make my own HD-content!

Sorry, I would go with professional installation of the dual BarcoReality 812s that gn2 chose. Same configuration.

Stacked 12" CRT projectors with a total of 1000 ANSI lumens and fully color-corrected lenses + 6 pole astig magnets and all the bells and whistles.

Man, it would be cool to see some of these come up at a surplus auction, two bad replacement CRTs would break the bank!

I'd buy a trio of 36" hi-def Sony WEGA TVs, have the aperature grilles removed, and have the phosphors removed and replaced with projection type phosphors. Rig up a liquid cooled front real quick, some huge telescope lenses, and we're in business!

ONE projector to converge, and PLENTY of brightness. :)
