I just got my little VGA converter box for my dreamcast today and I went to hook it up to my DILA to see the sweet 480p that the Dreamcast can produce.

I plugged in everything and plugged it into my VGA2 port (the 5bnc one) I then set the setting to 480p and it doesn't sync. So I tried auto. Still no sync.

Have any of you guys been successful getting the 480p from your dreamcast to work with your DILA?

Thx,

Cameron

Well I plugged it into my 21" monitor in my office to see if the VGA did work in the first place. It does. It does say that the video frequencies are as follows:

FH 31.5Khz

Fv 59.9Hz

Any thoughts guys?

Thx,

Cameron

Cameron,

I've been using my Dreamcast/VGA box and G15 for a while, and it looks stunning. I first had a "Treamcast" (I kid you not) VGA box clone, which worked fine for several months, but then had a bad VGA plug connection, so I got another VGA box clone and it has worked fine since.

As a matter of fact the Dreamcast/VGA box combo shows of the higher contrast capabilities of the Grayhawk screen even better than with movies.

But I've always used the regular VGA input rather than the RGBHV input where I have my HTPC plugged in.

The first thing that I'd check is swapping the H and V BNC plug connections, as this may be a sync issue, or you can just try a VGA to VGA input, which has always worked for me.

OK I just tried it with my computer1 connection and it didn't work! Now I have no idea what to do. I wonder if it is because the refresh rate that is being sent is 59.9Hz?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Cameron

Hey Dean,

What does your VGA box look like? Mine is a see-through gray case.

Cameron,

Mine has an oragnge plastic case and is made by a company called Nika.

I'd double-check your source input settings, which should only be set to "Auto".

59.95Hz is a standard video refresh rate, as is 31.5Khz.

I can get it to sync on both computer inputs.

Have you tried directly connecting your PC to the G15 set to standard 640 X [email protected] VGA mode?

I would still double-check the connections, try different cables, and the confirm the projector settings.

Dean,

Well I just tried setting my HTPC to 640x480 at 60 Hz. It worked fine. I do have my G15 set at Auto. I used the same cable on the DC as my HTPC.

OK I am really concerned about my little VGA adapter.

Thx,

Cameron,

I would be suspect of the VGA box clone, being a cheap clone that probably cost $1.50 in parts to build.

As I mentioned earlier, my 1st one only lasted a few months before it was unable to pass the red color information through th VGA output connection without wiggling it, and then finally, not at all.

I would really appreciate it if somebody could describe their VGA box for the DC that they are successfully using with a DILA projector.

Thanks,

Well guys, I bought another VGA box and it worked!

Man it looks awesome!!!!!!!

The best so far is Rayman of all things. A close second is Jet Grind Radio. Even the non-VGA stuff looks great!

If you DILA owners don't have a Dreamcast, get one! They can be had for $70 off of half.com and I have been picking up good games for under $10 off of the same site!

Totally happy. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Cameron,

I'm glad that you got it fixed. Other games that look great are Soul Caliber, Crazy Taxi, and Hydro Thunder (but you have to use the on/off video mode tweak to get it to utilize the VGA box.

Yes, it does look fantastic, and it's hard to not burn up hours on the bulb.

Hehe.

Yeah I burned up a good 4 hours last night!

Yeah I need to try my Crazy taxi. I didn't have time.

Soul Calibur does look awesome though.

Cameron,

Where did you end up getting your current working

VGA box, and who is the manufacturer? I don't have

a Dreamcast, but my nephew brings his over occasionally

so maybe I should get one if they are cheap. Thanks.

- Chris

P.S. I did a Google search on "dreamcast vga nika", since

Nika is the brand that Dean mentioned. Apparently these

words mean something nasty in some eastern European language :)

I received my adapter from www.levelsix.com

Don't get the cheap $9 cable, get the $22 one.

The other company is Niko not Nika BTW.

I haven't tried their cable out but I read some negative reviews on the brand.
