Can you support the wood backing above the suspended ceiling that you want to attach the projector mount to by attaching it to whatever structure above supports the suspended ceiling? There must be a framed subfloor or structure above.
drop ceiling projector mount - need help!
Hello All,
I have been recently researching different projectors and have decided on buying the optoma hd65. Then I started looking into mounts for the projectors, then realized that my drop ceiling might not be able to handle the weight of the projector even thought its only ~5lbs.
I have looked around a bit only solution I found is having a ceiling adapter, then buying a mount, which is more than what I want to spend. Another "solution" I thought off was getting the adjustable ceiling mount and screwing that into the wood itself above the drop ceiling and cut a 2x4 in the drop ceiling to let the mount come down.
Does any one have any recommendation of what could be a better solution to my problem???
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

yes there 2 by 6 or 2 by 8 wood panels above the drop ceiling and i have about 5" of room between the wood and drop ceiling.
I ran across this probelm as well but my mount came with wire supports much like the wire holding the drop ceil up. once the mount is wired to the ceiling or the floor above it you should no worries at point.
what mount did you use? i want to see if it can work for me as well - thanks!

Keep in mind what room is above the projector. I used a ceiling mount with an 18" extension pole hanging from one of the floor joists above my drop-ceiling for about a year. If someone (my 3 and 5 year old daughters) was in the living room (running around) above my theater area, the projector would occasionally shake, sometimes requiring re-alignment with the screen. With my theater remodel almost complete, I opted for a wall-mount from the same company (peerless) as my ceiling mount, so I was able to use the same mounting system attached to the projector itself, and I was 1) able to avoid the projector shake, and 2) it allows me to have a drop-ceiling with specialized acoustic tiles with no as few holes in it as possible, cutting down on sound leaking upstairs.
forgive my stupidity, but how does the suspended ceiling kit work??
my ceiling isn't that high, probably 9' from the the ground...if this is going to hang down, i will keep running into it no? or can i make the hanging wires as small as possible?

Don`t get confused dude just Just as everyone is suggesting Make a wooden rack 3 feet below the ceiling and place your PJ their. Everything should be good.
It mounts above the suspended ceiling, and the projector mount attaches to it.

It mounts above the suspended ceiling, and the projector mount attaches to it.
ohhh....so this isn't the actual mount - this is something that would go above the drop ceiling then i would have to buy a mount for the projector...got it...thanks for all the help!
