I have had this unit for several years but have managed to get the OTA HD channels programmed -after some difficulties. Last time I used the tips from "the Spot" to get set up but this time I'm stumped.

I checked and I have version 5.10. I just moved the unit and had it going fine but then the 'Guide' froze to the antenna input and wouldn't release to the SAT guide when required so I unplugged for a reset. Now I can get the channels to function but not with CH UP and DOWN in the OTA input.

Also, as a side issue, I don't understand why A -the guide froze and, 2 -why this OTA guide never did give any info ( no information available or something similar) like the new HR does.

Sure would appreciate some ideas to fix this channel toggle problem. It is connected to the same attic antenna as before and everything else seems to be ok.

I have done this several times so I think I may have missed something particular in the process. Does this sound right to you?

(this is from memory of last night which I did directly from the instructions from "Spot" There are a few unspecified issues in those however.

-unplug the antenna coax input

-turn OFF "off air guide"

-do a channel search. ( ??? does it matter full or quick search if you only use one antenna input? I have tried both ways.)

-turn ON "off air guide"

-do not search

-connect antenna ( ??? Is this out of sequence? Should it be the last step?)

-input manually the HD off air channels.

( ??? Does it matter if you use the channel number it converts 'TO' or the one it converts 'FROM'? For example the local channel is 7-1 ( the number displayed on the banner) but the other number you can use is, for example 43, which gets converted automatically to 7-1.)

Ah... your trying the 'trick' to only have the digitals when 'surfing' OTA.

Your procedure is correct.

Why it hung up? Who knows...

You should be able to punch in the 'real' channel number or the 're-mapped' channel number. Once locked, it should be kept in 'memory'.

Channel guide info from OTA is only as good as what your local stations provide. So do... some don't.

Yes, thats what I am trying to recreate.

What about the questions I posed in the procedure?

(full or quick search and when to reconnect the antenna coax)

The channel guide info is present on the HR 10-250 but not the DTC. Guess it must be something in the tuner differences.

Any reason that the Sat coax should be disconnected for this also?

I appreciate your follow up.

Quick and Full search are not part of "off air guides". That just a 'regular' channel scan (I believe).

Perhaps the HR10-250 has an integrated channel guide. The DTC does not.

Channel guide and 'off air guide' are diferent.

IMO... it's much less effort to connect everything, turn on 'off air guides', perform a full scan.

Then delete the unwanted analog channels (except those that are re-mapped). Afterwards, all you have to do is push the 'channel up' one additional time to skip the analog-equivalent channel.

OK with your approach to a point. I got ALL the analog and digitals. How do I delete just the analogs after?

I tried in the profiles but the only stations that show up there are analog and if I delete on of them, the digital counterpart is gone as well. If I do 'off air guide' to OFF I lose the digital also.

I am stumped. It did work before! What is the last step?

Off-Air guides provide the PSIP channel mapping. With guides enabled, if you delete the analog, you delete the digitals too.

Your options are:

Use the procedure as originally outlined.

Turn off 'off-air guides' and only use the 'real' channel numbers.

Use 'off-air guides' and delete all unwanted channels except the re-mapped analog counterparts (which also deletes the digitals). This is what I use... it's only one additional 'push' of the Channel up/down button to skip the analogs when 'surfing'.
