DTS is the best quality sound, followed by Dolby Digital 5.1. You might also watch some broadcasts in Dolby Digital stereo (2.0)or Dolby Digital mono. You're kind of at the mercy of how the movie was recorded, how it is being broadcast and how old it is. Satellite and cable broadcasts show a lot of DD stereo but not a whole lot of DD 5.1. Most of the movies you rent these days are DD 5.1. DTS sounds a little better because it is presented with less compression than DD 5.1 and less compression means truer signal quality. Finally, there is Pro Logic. The technology is kind of old and limited. Most of your old VHS tapes are recorded this way. Hope that helps.

I hope this helps
