If all I wanted was to subscribe to HBO HD, would I still need the oval Dish? I'd like to use my 18" dish.

Yes and No.

When you subscribe to HBO ala carte for $12/month, you get HBO HD which is on the 119 bird. But you also get the other 7 HBO channels, Sundance channel, and a few others sprinkled in.....which are all on the main sat. If you want to give those up, then you could just use your current round dish and point it at the 119 sat. and get HBO HD and the HD demo loop/HD PPV. It's not that expensive to upgrade to an oval dish ( http://18inch.com )...then you won't miss out on some of the good standard def. content you get for your $12.

Thanks for the answer I was looking for.

I really don't watch any movies that are not on DVD or HDTV, so i don't mind not getting all the SD stuff.

I currently have a Dish6000 setup w/ ota module that I'm getting rid of due to the #$%%* fan noise. Guess what, I only have one dish pointed to the 61 bird for a year now and don't miss the SD channels at all and I'm subcribed to top 40 due to 1 year contract. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Wow! In that case, I guess $12/month for just HBO HD is a good deal to you. I find myself flipping on the Direct TV for HBO HD only as well, but occasionally I'll find something on their SD stations that I feel worth of watching (or I'll send it to my VCR to tape for a relative or to watch in the bedroom).
