I need some help figuring out how to set up two monitors. I have an All-in-Wonder 9600xt video card. I have windows XP with service pack one.

My first monitor is a Samsung DLP TV. The second is an LCD Monitor.

Everytime I try to set up the video card for two monitors I get these results:

1. I get 1280x720 on the Sammie. I get significant overscan on the LCD. The widscreen format seems to transfer over to the LCD.

2. I get the correct the correct 1280x1024 resolution on the LCD, but get an extended desktop on my DLP

3. I get the correct resolution on the DLP, but get an extended desktop on the LCD.

Sorry if I'm not explaining this very well. I don't have too much knowledge in this area.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you use Display Properties/Settings in XP to set up your displays or something else?

If I understand you correctly your Sammy is a native 1280x720 and your LCD is a 1280x1224, correct?

I am not quite clear what your goal is (other than probably getting a pixel perfect (native) res on each mon). Are you trying to get both mon working the same time? If so, do you want “clone mode†or “extended desktop

I use the propertires/settings in XP. I also tried powerstrip, whihc I'm not even sure how to use.

I'm trying to get the native resolution on each monitor. I guess I want to get it in "clone mode". I want to be able to access programs and play games on both monitors wihtout too much hassle. In extended desktop mode I have to turn both monitors on. I want to be able to have full access to all programs on both monitors. I want my wife to be able to boot up and play the Sims 2 without having to mess around with the settings. Thanks for your help.

As Delvo indicated, clone mode with diff. res. AND still running them at their native res. does not work.

As far as getting the correct res to work. AFAIK with the recent CAT drivers you no longer need Powerstrip for the slightly "exotic" res of 1280x720 (and never needed it for 1280x1024 anyway). If you cannot select it instantly you might have to un-check "Hide modes that this monitor cannot select".

You might also want to check out Ultramon. This is a very nice utility to manage multiple desktops. I believe there is a trial version available.

Thanks guys. I've seem to run into a bigger problem now. Everytime I try to play a game on the LCD, the PC restarts and gives me the following error message:

The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation. Please check with the device manufacturer for a driver update.

The display driver ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 series seems to be responsible for the system instability.

I've tried the new drivers already, but they are not helping.

I understand that this a dual VGA card. Have tried just to swap the displays around to see if this makes any difference with your game? (Just for giggles....I am not sure if it helps at all, but might be worth a try).

I tried it, but still had the same problem. I'll try contacting ATI to see if they have a solution.

I'm returning my LCD Monitor and getting the Dell W1700 instead. This way I can get 1280x720 resolution on both monitors. Dell's been having some pretty good deals on these LCD TVs too. They were selling it for about 40% off the retail price so I just could resist.
